Things To Consider When Riding Your Electric Scooter At Night.

As summer is coming to an end, it's getting darker quicker. So if your mode of transport is an e-scooter or if you are thinking of getting one in the future, we’ve run through some of the things you should consider when riding your electric scooter at night.

Visibility

One factor you should really consider when out late at night is your visibility, this includes:

  • Wearing reflective gear, ditch any dark coloured clothing

  • Ensuring that your lights are working, including, indicators, headlights, brake lights, taillights.

  • Having lots of light at night might be all good and well but not so much for others so ensure that you are not blinding them

Plan Your Ride

At nighttime you may find it's harder to navigate your way around and it really does test your directional skills. But these few things below may help you out.

  • We recommend riding along in a well-lit street, avoiding any dark or deserted areas.

  • Make sure you have an idea of the route you are taking, either through memory or maps on your phone.

  • Make sure you check your battery percentage of both the electric scooter and your phone. It's worth considering keeping a portable charger on you while riding.

Safe Riding Style

Riding at night can be more risky than riding during the day, due to lack of visibility or even drivers fatigue, so ensuring your riding style is safe is key.

  • Wear protective gear - helmet, knee and elbow pads etc.

  • Maintaining a safe speed, especially as visibility is poor.

  • Stay vigilant and anticipate any potential hazards.

  • Avoid any distractions, so no headphones and make sure to keep your phone in the hold mount.

Know The Rules

Make sure that you check with local laws, especially regulations on electric scooter usage, in particular when riding your scooter at night.
