How to Change an Electric Scooter Tyre (Without Losing Your Mind)
Got a flat or worn-out tyre on your electric scooter? Don’t worry—changing it isn’t as scary as it sounds. Whether you’re dealing with a solid or air-filled tyre, here’s a simple guide to get you rolling again.
What You’ll Need:
-
New tyre (make sure it fits your model)
-
Tyre levers or flat screwdrivers
-
Wrenches or Allen keys
-
Pump (if using air-filled tyres)
-
Soapy water or rubbing alcohol (for stubborn tyres)
-
Optional: heat gun or hot water (helps stretch solid tyres)
Step 1: Take Off the Wheel
Turn off your scooter and flip it over or prop it up. Loosen the bolts with your wrench and, if it’s a hub motor, carefully unplug the cable.
Step 2: Remove the Old Tyre
-
Pneumatic (air) tyres: Let the air out, then pry the tyre off using levers.
-
Solid tyres: Warm it up to make it more flexible, then slowly work it off.
Step 3: Fit the New One
-
For air tyres, fit one side, slip in the tube, then the other side. Inflate slowly and evenly.
-
For solid tyres, warm it up, lube the rim a bit, and push it on—this takes patience!
Step 4: Reattach and Test
Bolt the wheel back on, reconnect cables, and make sure everything spins freely. Then take it for a short test ride.
Final Tip
Solid tyres are a pain to install but super low-maintenance. Air tyres give you a comfier ride, but need a little more care.
That’s it! Once you’ve done it once, it’s way less intimidating next time. Happy scooting!
